IMG_9900.JPG IMG_9901.JPG Ban Guan Foong Bakery Address: 50,Jalan Sultan ,Pasir Pinji, 31550 Ipoh, Perak.

Swing’s Coffee Days . Top 4 Cafè

I’m sort of a freelance designer nowadays. Means I’m not working in a proper office, my office is anywhere, most of the time I work at home. During my coffee-mate jobless period, my “office” usually in a cafe. Cafe we went is uncountable.

Some friends asked me to write a list of coffee shop that I went, so I decided to sort of a top 4 cafe that I love and a good place for me to work (usually I went on the weekdays). Bare in mind I’m not a coffee specialist, so I can’t comment much of their coffee I drink, and I only drink cappuccino. I can just tell it is nice, good taste, I like it or BAD. And I don’t usually had my meal in the cafe too, save money. LOL

1. The Brew Culture
There is always my number 1 cafe, love the environment and coffee too. Enjoy seeing the barista brewing the coffee for us, when the time coffee/mocha was served, I can straight away feel the passion of the barista brewing every cup of them. The latte art presented on the coffee and mocha is stunningly perfect! Not the fancy one yet it was really nice.

I always prefer sitting at the table that near to the wall that electric plug was there with a 4feet table, just good for me to place my huge laptop, our drinks and sometimes dessert.

The sunlight from the window is warm enough, just really enjoy doing my work there.

Address: B-01-06, Plaza Damas 3, Jalan Sri Hatamas 1, Kuala Lumpur.

2. Wood and Steel Cafè / Gallery

Friendly staff, cozy ambience, nice music. Coffee was good too. I did tried their food, taste good with reasonable price. Been here around 5 times, sometimes work, sometimes enjoying with friends. Prefer to come during the weekdays or not-so-pack time.

20140722-213725-77845170.jpg

Love their wood & steel furniture and also their art piece. Wish to bring them home.

They have plenty of electric plug, just make sure you choose a good seats.

They have 2 stories, I usually just stay at the ground floor. And there is a gallery shop next to the cafe, can go to have a look.

Address: 33G, (Ground Floor), Jalan PJU 5/20E, The Strand, Kota Damansara, Petaling Jaya.
Operating hours: 9am – 11pm, Friday 3pm – Midnight, Close on every Monday.

3. Rekindle

Love the cozy ambience too, and it is the most convenient cafe for me. Their coffee wasn’t my choice, I always drink their fresh orange juice. It is purely orange only without adding any sugars. We always spend hours sitting there to do work, read books or chit chat.

They are getting famous, so it was always very pack during the weekends.

Address: 25, Jalan SS2/64, Petaling Jaya.
Contact: 03-7496 6309
Close on every Monday.

4. Three Little Birds Coffee

Went there once only because it is really too far for me.
Peaceful environment with husky modern interior. The furniture kinda like Wood & Steel.

The only time I went be sit at the bar site table which facing outside of the cafe. Quite good for doing work and their bar stool is special. Haha!

They have outdoor seats which kinda spacious with the greeny environment.

Address: D7. (Lot G-18) Jalan Sentul, Sentul East, Kuala Lumpur.

(Gonna upload some pictures of the cafe later)

the Wedding Venue

From the day we planning for wedding, Chinese banquet seems to be our last choice because we looking for something different. So, we slowly seeks for suitable venues. It was kind hard when it comes to budget wise and also our numbers of guests are kinda big.

We came across places like Passion Road (which I found one of the blogger I always follow did their wedding there), Ciao (an Italian restaurant) and Zebra Square (which my friend introduced). Zebra Square is totally out of our budget because their just provide an empty space for event and we need to pay for every single thing that we gonna use. Ciao is a very nice restaurant which I love it a lot, their interior is totally my taste and my style but we don’t have so much budget for it. So, at last back to our first choice – Passion Road.

We had made an appointment with the person in-charge of Passion Road – Vinc before we headed to the place. He had show us around the places and give some brief explanation. I had placed a booking  there before bringing my fiance to have a look again.

So, after the fiance saw the place, he agree and love it, and we officially confirm the venue finally!

a Melacca day trip

Have a last minute decision to go for a day trip on a random Monday. Melaka usually was packed during weekends and public holiday. So, it’s awesome to enjoy a day in Melaka during a “Monday-Blue”. (Don’t beat me)

We start our journey after get a light breakfast in car around 10am. 1.5hour journey from Petaling Jaya to Melaka. Quite smooth traffic tho.

We came to the famous and long-looking-forward Klebang Original Coconut Milk Shake. The coconut blended well with ice, Wall’s vanilla ice-cream, the coconut meat and topped with a scope of vanilla ice-cream. It is really perfect to drink under the hot weather in Melaka. What best is the texture of the coconut milk shake is really well chewing because of the perfect blend of the coconut meat.

What I love of foursquare is they always brings me to get nice food. LOL. So, we came to 496 Baba Low’s which is not that famous among the tourist yet well known around the locals. It is not located at the central of those tourist usual visit area yet you can reach by using map. It is just a not well renovated stall beside the road.

20140618-200328-72208232.jpg

We just get to try their Pai Tee and Nyonya Laksa. Heard from one of my friend their Nyonya kuih is nice too but too bad they were sold out. Nyonya laksa is good and flavorful.

20140618-201557-72957764.jpg

Kueh Pai Tee is a popular Peranakan dish. It has similar filling as popiah and putting in a thin and crispy pastry tart shell.

Overall, the food is quite ok for me. Although there were tips in foursquare saying their service were bad and the aunty is not polite, and the aunty looks very impatient during the peak hour, yet the aunty was quite friendly and smile to me, she even chat a little and kidding with me when I was paying my bill.

After the lunch, we went to the Jonker Street area to park our car and walk around.

We come across this art & craft store – Red Handicrafts 剪紙人家 which catchy my eyes because I love vintage, antique, oriental art thingy. So we spend some time in the store to have a look. (Can’t simply spend nowadays ><) They have a lot of traditional Chinese paper cutting art-pieces and souvenirs, t-shirts, angpao pack etc.

Taste Better Durian Puff is seriously awesome! I never thought that it will be so tasty as I’m not a big fans of durian.

One bite off to your mouth, the durian cream burst in your mouth, it was so smooth and creamy. The smells was really good too! I miss it already..

It is just located beside the public toilet area which is along the Jonker Street main road. If not mistake during the weekday they close at 6pm. They have several shops in klang valley too, maybe I can give a try next time.

Cafe hunting starts…
Firstly, we went to Mods Cafe which they have my dream car – Volkswagen Kombi Campervan parked inside the shop. The cafe decorated with European vintage items like the pinball machine, radio, black disc etc.

20140619-013807-5887515.jpg

And this cafe style is totally my dream since I was secondary school. A Volkswagen Campervan which selling coffee and food, can drive around the town… (Ok, people’s always made my dream comes true before I can do it, my bad).

The minimum order here is a drink per person. So, we just had our usual cappuccino, taste no complaint tho it is not excellent. (I’m not a pro to comment)

Next, Halia Inc Restaurant & Coffee. It located just next to the Melaka river. They using a famous and good coffee machine and coffee bean from RAW. We just have a cup of coffee and my friend meeting her friends there.
A comfy and spacious place.
Kinda empty when we were there on a weekday.

Lastly, we purposely drove to Portuguese Settlement just to pack my favorite Mango Juice at the first stall where you parked your car. I usually buy from this stall, but peoples introduced the Joes Only One Mango Juice which located at very far end of the food court. So, your choice.

They used young and rip mangoes for the juice added in sour plum and ice. The perfect blend of the sweetness and sourness!

*i steal picture from google because i forgotten to take a pic of it before my whole family finished the 10 cups i brought back home) LOL
